French Luxury fashion house Chloé is a subsidiary of luxury conglomerate Richemont and headquartered in Paris. Gaby Aghion, the French/Egyptian fashion designer who coined the phrase prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear), founded the company in 1952 and it has since become an icon in the industry. During the 1970’s, clients included Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot, and celebrities like Madonna, Sienna Miller and Katie Holmes are loyal customers today. Initially specializing in women’s ready-to-wear clothing, Chloé now offers shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories as well. World renowned designers like Karl Lagerfeld got their start at the company, which is known to have developed some of the best in the world (Maxime de la Falaise, Graziella Fontana and more). Gaby directed Chloé until 1985, when it was acquired by Alfred Dunhill Ltd., although the brand has continued to thrive under Richemont’s ownership.
