It's not easy to stand out in luxury watchmaking and many do this with high complications and intense hand finishing. HYT (Hydro Mechanical Horologists) is a truly rare watchmaker that differentiates itself with liquid timekeeping. Based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the brand was founded in 2012 and launched its H1 timepiece at BaselWorld the same year. The watch contained a liquid filled chamber with a luminescent fluid that moved around a clear perimeter tube via two bellows to display the hours. A conventional minute hand on a large sub-dial relayed the minutes and everything was powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement. There are currently seven collections and all follow this same general fluid design, although there are some unique models. For example, the H3 has a straight, horizontal tube and the SOONOW has a skull motif with the fluid going around the skull's perimeter. To accommodate the tech, the cases are relatively large at around 50mm.
