Judith Leiber

Judith Leiber founded her company in 1963 after years of working as a handbag designer for various brands. She’s well known for crystal minaudières – purses comprised of metal and encrusted with Swarovski crystals – and many have whimsical animal or food themes such as baby pigs, cupcakes, snakes and peacocks. Leiber bags have become fashion statements for women worldwide, including presidential First Ladies like Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton and Mamie Eisenhower. In 2007 and 2008, Leiber was declared the most prestigious luxury handbag brand by the New York Luxury Institute, a global network of luxury experts. The brand’s portfolio includes bejeweled face masks, novelty bags resembling a wide range of objects (cameras to food to animals), classic handbags and jewelry. Most of the exotic handbags are several thousand dollars, but more classical pieces start under $1,000 with materials such as crocodile and Italian satin. The unique designs and endless creativity separate Leiber bags from other luxury brands. Both collectors and discriminating shoppers looking for something different will certainly not be disappointed.
