Why shopworn?

Founded in 1893 by Kokichi Mikimoto, the jeweler specializes in pearls with a collection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants, and rings. Kokichi was the first in the world to create a cultured pearl (under controlled conditions using a bivalve mollusk) and is a leading producer today. Sophisticated, modern collections have both Japanese and European influence with a combination of pearls, precious metals, and gemstones. The Paris Trial, sparked by a 1921 London newspaper article claiming Mikimoto cultured pearls were simply imitations, resulted in a legal victory for Kokichi and worldwide recognition of his work. Thomas Edison was among those in awe of his pearls and declared them as the “real thing,” further enhancing the brand’s reputation. Mikimoto cultured pearl types include Akoya, Black South Sea, Golden South Sea, Baroque, and White South Sea.
