Mondaine
If Mondaine’s iconic watch face looks familiar, Apple paid over $20 million to the Swiss Federal Railway service to use the design for iOS 6 (2012 iPhone clock) and beyond. In 1944, Swiss engineer Hans Hilfiker with the Federal Swiss Railways created the now legendary clock face that became the “Official Swiss Railways Clock.” Bold, black rectangular indices and hands against a white dial, enhanced by a unique red lollipop seconds hand, became the blueprint for Mondaine’s first watch collection in 1986. Mondaine is the only watch brand with an official license from the Federal Swiss Railways. The design continues to define the brand today with both affordable quartz and mechanical watches for men and women. Additional designs have been added with the Helvetica collection, including hybrid smartwatches. Mondaine also sells a collection of clocks with the famous design.
