Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta

Born on July 22, 1932, a young man from the Dominican Republic had dreams of becoming a visual artist. His dreams took him to The Academy of San Fernando in Spain to study painting. While there, he became enamored with the world of design and fashion. He would go on to secure an internship with the legendary founder of Balenciaga, a position as a design assistant at the iconic Lanvin-Castillo high fashion house, and a full-time role as a designer at the American house of Elizabeth Arden. After the latter, he would launch his very own label geared towards ready-to-wear casual luxury for high-end socialites. This man was Oscar de la Renta and everyone in the world of fashion knows of his accomplishments. From dressing famous celebrities like Amy Adams and Sarah Jessica Parker to American first ladies such as Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton, Oscar de la Renta’s signature style embodies modernity with hints of femininity. Today, this style extends beyond clothes and is incorporated in Oscar de la Renta fragrances, jewelry, and accessories.
